INNOVATION
With its innovative D-Air® Racing system, Dainese has revolutionized the concept of motorcycle protection in order to offer the highest level of safety currently available anywhere.
The D-Air® Racing system is the result of tireless research for more than 10 years by D-Tec working in close partnership with important research organizations like the University of Padova, the specialist in 2D detection systems, and with indispensable cooperation from motorcycle racing champions on racetracks around the world.
The D-Air® Racing system consists of an airbag that inflates upon command by an electronic trigger system that is not attached to the motorcycle in any way. The system is housed inside the aerodynamic spoiler in a racing suit.
The extra weight of just 650 g more than a traditional suit and the system’s reduced dimensions keeps riding comfort levels high while also preserving the fit and good ergonomics. All this helps keep the rider’s attention concentrated on driving and the pursuit of the highest performance in conditions of complete safety.

COMPONENTS
The device consists of a 5 liter capacity bag, a cold gas generator, and an inertia platform composed of:
an electronic unit
three accelerometers (one for each dimension: x, y, z)
three turn meters (one for each dimension: x, y, z)
a GPS sensor
All this is complemented by a multi-colour led user interface on the outside of the sleeve that indicates system operating status and is activated by a collar strap.
System autonomy equals around 8 hours of continuous operation.

OPERATION
Decades of studying case histories of motorcycle rider falls, the trauma incurred, and an analysis of the damage to the suits they were wearing at the time has lead to the identification of the dynamics of certain accidents, such as high-side and low-side with the rolling of the rider’s body when the shoulder area is the part most subject to risk of injury.
The D-Air® Racing system has been developed to provide effective protection for the rider’s shoulder area, to reduce the movements of the neck and the upper arms in order to prevent fracture and trauma. The use of this avant-garde technology permits a substantial reduction in the energy transmitted to the rider’s body at the moment of impact equal to 80% less than the force transmitted by traditional EN 1612.1 Standard protectors because its absorption capacity is ten times higher than in traditional EN 1612.1 Standard protectors.
Continuous Dainese safety research and commitment have led to the development of an intelligent triggering system that constantly monitors the rider’s dynamics through sophisticated algorithms for interpretation. Inflation is triggered whenever sudden variations are noted, or whenever the rider loses control of the bike after a fall.
The suit’s revolutionary construction lets the airbag be housed inside it thanks to the ample elasticated inserts provided in S1 fabric on the shoulders that permit the inflation of the bag when the device is triggered.
The airbag inflates in less than 50 thousandths of a second; deflation takes around 5 seconds.

TELEMETRIC CONTROL
With its D-Air® Racing system, Dainese offers sports riding lovers more than just an integrated system of protectors: an efficient instrument to monitor their riding performance that records all the relevant data to be telemetrically recorded by GPS sensor and then downloaded later for display on a computer.

The GPS sensor detects the rider’s position ten times a second for the monitoring by specific software of the following parameters:
·           lap time (to one-tenth of a second precision)
·           Speed
·           Acceleration/Deceleration
·           Banking (the angle of inclination from the ground)
·           Position
